Paediatrics (Kids Acupuncture!)

After the birth of my first daughter Fiadh in 2009 I felt that i needed to fully understand how helpful Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine could be in treating my daughter. I decided to complete a year long postgraduate Diploma in England with Julian Scott one of the leading experts in the West in the field of paediatric Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine.

Many kids today suffer from chronic conditions and sometimes Western medicine isn't enough!

Acupuncture offers a natural, safe and approach to paediatric care. Modern acupuncture treatments are done using painless gentle acupuncture and non-needle treatment( Tui Na massage and Sho Ni Shin, so even children afraid of needles will find the treatments easy to take and often look forward to their treatment!

In Chinese medicine we believe that each child is unique and each treatment is panned to meet the child's individual needs. Sometimes generic western treatments may not be able to adequately address the challenges faced by a child and parents may be told they'll just “grow out of it.”

Does Acupuncture Hurt?
Acupuncture for kids is virtually painless. Pediatric acupuncturists are trained to use a special needling technique using needles so fine they are about the size of a strand of hair. This is known as gentle needle technique.For young children a rapid needling technique is used, where the needle is inserted and immediately taken out. Babies and children do not have to sit still for more than a few seconds at a time.

We also use other modalities of TCM including Tui Na Massage,Cupping, Sho ni Shin( Japanese Acupuncture for children) dietary and lifestyle advice and Chinese Herbal Medicine so if a child is needle phobic we will always have a way to treat them.

Most parents want to know what age we can start treating their children and are often surprised to find out we treat a lot of newborns particularly for colic!
